In the first part of the Mystery Play of Elche, the singing angel comes down from the roof of the Basilica holding a golden palm. The Mystery Play of Elche is a liturgical drama dating from the Middle Ages, which is enacted in the Basilica de Santa María on 14 and 15 August of each year. In 2001, UNESCO declared it part of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. It commemorates the Dormition, Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin Mary. August 2015.
